Arsenal emerge as the most likely Premier League destination for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali if he leaves this summer.

Arsenal have been named the most likely Premier League destination for Newcastle star Sandro Tonali should the Italian international move this summer, according to top transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 25-year-old midfielder joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 for £55 million and has since become a central figure despite early turbulence, including a betting-related suspension. Newcastle reportedly value Tonali at over £100 million after securing him on a long-term contract until 2029, with an optional extra year.

Mikel Arteta’s side reportedly made an approach for Tonali in January, which was immediately rejected by Newcastle. With the Premier League title race heating up, Arsenal are expected to reignite their pursuit when the summer window opens.

Di Marzio told AceOdds:

Arsenal really wants him as well… Arsenal is the most likely destination for Tonali in the Premier League if he decides to stay in England.”

He added that Juventus are also keen, with the Serie A giants viewing Tonali as their top summer target. However, for a player opting to remain in England, Arsenal currently hold the advantage.

Tonali’s Personal Preferences and Prospects

Tonali has shown glimpses of brilliance this season, blending technical quality, pressing intensity, and midfield dynamism—traits that would slot seamlessly into Arteta’s high-tempo system.

Di Marzio also noted Tonali’s personal pull toward Italy:

“He really likes Serie A and I think he wants to play there again. Even if he stays in the Premier League, it might not be for more than two or three years.”

Newcastle’s Balancing Act

Newcastle face a tricky summer. While financial pressures and squad needs could force a sale, Eddie Howe is keen to keep his core group intact for another top-six push. Di Marzio suggested that only one of Tonali or Bruno Guimarães is likely to depart due to financial limitations.

A signing worth more than £100 million would be a statement of intent for Arsenal as they look to finally break their Premier League title drought. The biggest question remains whether Tonali will opt for a Premier League challenge or a Serie A return.
