Mathys Tel is currently at the center of a January transfer battle, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham vying for his services.
Arsenal’s pursuit of young talent Mathys Tel has received a boost as the 19-year-old winger has reportedly turned down a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Tel, currently at Bayern Munich, was considering his options after informing the German club of his desire to leave before the January transfer window closes.
Mathys Tel, who made his professional debut with Rennes before moving to Bayern Munich, is one of the most exciting young prospects in European football. His move to Bayern was seen as a major step in his development, and although he has shown glimpses of his potential, he has struggled to secure regular first-team football in Germany.
This season, Tel has made just eight appearances in the Bundesliga, and it became clear that the young Frenchman needed more playing time to continue his progress. As a result, he informed Bayern Munich of his desire to leave before the January transfer window closes, sparking interest from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur, keen to bolster their squad, saw Tel as a perfect addition to their attacking lineup. Reports suggested that Spurs had agreed on a €60 million deal with Bayern Munich for the winger, and the move appeared to be on the brink of completion. However, Tel’s decision to reject the offer has left Tottenham in a difficult position.
However, Tel has opted to stay at Bayern Munich for now, with his decision to reject Tottenham’s proposal being communicated to the Premier League club. This move has been confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who stated that Tel’s current decision is to reject the proposal. Romano added that barring any surprises, Tel won’t be joining Spurs.
The rejection of Tottenham’s proposal is a significant blow to the club, especially given their current struggles. With key players sidelined due to injuries, Spurs were hoping that the addition of Tel would provide a much-needed boost. However, the player’s decision to stay at Bayern Munich, at least for the time being, has forced Tottenham to look for alternative targets.
Arsenal, along with Manchester United and Chelsea, are also interested in signing Tel. The Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta has been actively looking for a forward to add depth to his squad following Gabriel Jesus’s injury. Tel’s rejection of Tottenham could signal his preference for a move to Arsenal, although no official agreement has been reached yet.
