Arsenal Suffer Double Injury Concern in Mansfield Victory

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provides an injury update after Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori were forced off during the FA Cup victory over Mansfield.

Arsenal progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals came with a small setback after both Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori were forced off with injury during the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town.

While goals from Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze secured Arsenal’s place in the next round, the injuries raised fresh concerns for manager Mikel Arteta ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

The Gunners made several changes for the match, giving opportunities to younger players while resting key figures such as Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi. However, the challenging pitch conditions and demanding schedule appeared to contribute to the two injury scares.

Leandro Trossard was the first Arsenal player forced off.

The Belgian attacker lasted just 38 minutes before going down off the ball while holding the top of his leg. After receiving treatment on the pitch, he was unable to continue and was replaced as Arsenal adjusted their formation.

Trossard has dealt with a minor calf issue at different points this season, so the moment immediately caused concern among supporters.

Later in the second half, Riccardo Calafiori also had to leave the field.

The Italian defender signalled discomfort in his right hamstring after attempting a clearance. He was substituted in the 76th minute, with young defender Jaden Dixon coming on as a replacement.

Calafiori had only recently returned from a previous muscle injury that kept him sidelined for several matches earlier in the season.

Arteta Provides Injury Update

After the match, Mikel Arteta reassured supporters that both injuries appear to be minor.

Speaking to the Media, the Arsenal manager explained that the substitutions were made mainly as a precaution.

Both of them had little niggles,” Arteta said.

“They were not comfortable to continue and I knew that this could be a possibility, especially with the conditions we were playing in today. So we had to take them off.”

The uneven surface and intense schedule were factors behind the decision to avoid taking any risks.

The injuries arrive at a demanding point in Arsenal’s season as the club continues to compete in multiple competitions.

Calafiori’s fitness has been monitored carefully this campaign, while Trossard’s versatility has often required him to play across several attacking positions.

Arteta had already rested several key players for the FA Cup tie in order to manage workloads.

Despite the concerns, the manager will take positives from the performances of younger players who stepped in, including academy prospects given valuable minutes during the match.

Arsenal Await Further Medical Assessments

Both players are expected to undergo further assessments in the coming days.

Their availability for upcoming fixtures, including the Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen, remains uncertain.

Arsenal also face Everton in the Premier League before preparing for the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City later this month.

For now, Arteta’s tone remains calm, suggesting the injuries are unlikely to be serious.

However, with the Gunners competing for major trophies, the fitness of key players will be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
