Takehiro Tomiyasu has played a mere six minutes this season and may need surgery to address a persistent injury.
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is contemplating a second knee operation after being limited to just six minutes of action this season, according to Daily Mail. The 26-year-old Japanese international has faced a frustrating campaign, having initially returned from a knee injury only to suffer another setback.
Tomiyasu’s first knee operation last year kept him out for three months, and despite a lengthy recovery, he has struggled to regain full fitness. His recent appearance came as a late substitute in the Premier League win over Southampton in October, but he has not featured since due to ongoing issues with his troublesome knee.

Arsenal’s medical team is now considering a second procedure to address the persistent problem, which would require a lengthy rehabilitation period and likely rule Tomiyasu out for a significant amount of time. Head coach Mikel Arteta had previously provided a positive update on Tomiyasu’s fitness, but there is now some pessimism regarding his recovery.
The potential operation comes as a blow to Tomiyasu, whose time at Arsenal has been marred by injury issues. With his contract running for another 18 months, the club may need to reassess their options at the back, especially with the imminent return of Ben White from his own knee surgery.
