John Terry hits out at Arsenal celebrations after their Chelsea win, claiming the reaction showed pressure on Arteta’s side.
Former Blues captain John Terry criticised Arsenal celebrations after their Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Chelsea, saying Mikel Arteta’s side revealed the pressure they are under this season.
The Gunners secured a 4–2 aggregate win over Chelsea to book their place in the Carabao Cup final, with Kai Havertz scoring a stoppage-time goal at the Emirates Stadium to seal the second-leg victory.
Speaking on TikTok, Terry questioned the scale of Arsenal’s post-match reaction.
“They celebrated far too much for me,” Terry said. “I think that showed the pressure that’s on them at the moment. Let’s not forget, it’s the Carabao Cup — it’s not the Champions League final.”
Despite his criticism, the former England defender acknowledged Arsenal’s quality this season, praising their squad and performances in the Premier League.
“I’ve said it before, Arsenal are looking the best team by far in the Premier League so far and I think they’ve got the best squad in the Premier League,” Terry added.
However, he suggested the celebrations reflected the psychological weight on Arteta’s side as expectations continue to rise around their title challenge and pursuit of silverware.
Chelsea performance and rivalry edge
Terry also claimed Chelsea had matched Arsenal across both legs of the semi-final, despite losing the tie. He argued that Chelsea’s defensive structure limited Arsenal’s attacking threat and described the contest as a “cagey” affair.
His comments quickly sparked reaction across social media, with fans split between viewing the remarks as routine rivalry banter and interpreting them as frustration from the former Chelsea captain.
Clips of Terry reacting to Havertz’s late goal also circulated online, further fuelling debate following Arsenal’s progression to the final.
