Arsenal has successfully reached an agreement with Ajax to acquire the services of goalkeeper Tommy Setford, according to The Athletic.
The discussions between the two teams centered on completing the England Under-20 international’s move to the Emirates Stadium during the summer transfer window.
After lengthy negotiations, a mutual agreement was reached, with Arsenal agreeing to pay around €1 million plus further add-ons. Setford is expected to sign an initial four-year contract with the Gunners.
Arsenal have already signed 18-year-old Danish youth international Lucas Nygaard to bolster their goalkeeping ranks. Nygaard’s acquisition holds significance as he shares a connection with Arsenal’s goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana, who previously served at FC Nordsjaelland, Nygaard’s former club.
Arsenal’s restructuring of their academy goalkeeping department has garnered attention. The club released Ovie Ejeheri, James Hillson, and Arthur Okonkwo, prompting the need to strengthen their remaining academy goalkeepers through new signings.
