Arsenal finalize Piero Hincapie transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in €52M deal, adding depth and versatility to Arteta’s defensive lineup.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal has reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Ecuadorian international Piero Hincapie, marking another major step forward in their ambitious summer transfer campaign.
The Gunners will acquire Hincapie on a season-long loan with a mandatory purchase clause, locking in a total package worth €52 million (£45 million). The deal also includes a 10% sell-on clause, ensuring Leverkusen benefit from any future transfer profits.
Contract Details
Hincapie agreed to a five-year contract that runs until 2030, securing his long-term role in Mikel Arteta’s evolving squad. The 23-year-old plans to travel to London this weekend to complete his medical and finalize the move.
Hincapie brings versatility to the team, playing either as a left-sided centre-back or left-back. Arsenal signed him as a strategic replacement for Jakub Kiwior, who plans to join Porto in a €26 million deal. His arrival strengthens the defensive lineup alongside William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, and new signing Cristhian Mosquera.
Arsenal made Hincapie their eighth signing of the summer, adding him to a star-studded list that features Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke, Mosquera, and Christian Norgaard. Sporting director Andrea Berta negotiated the deal below Hincapie’s €60 million release clause.
If everything proceeds smoothly, Hincapie could debut in Arsenal’s upcoming clash against Liverpool. Since Mosquera already claimed the No. 3 shirt, Hincapie will choose a new number as he begins his Premier League journey.
