Madueke’s Arsenal transfer sees the Chelsea winger join the Gunners for £55 million as Arteta strengthens his squad.
Arsenal have officially agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign England international Noni Madueke for a fee exceeding £50 million, including add-ons. Madueke’s Arsenal transfer, confirmed by Fabrizio Romano with his signature “Here we go,” marks Arsenal’s third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.
Madueke, 23, joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for £28.5 million and has since made 91 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 9 assists. Despite flashes of brilliance, his time at Stamford Bridge was marred by inconsistency and fitness concerns. With Chelsea undergoing a forward-line overhaul, including the signings of Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, manager Enzo Maresca signaled Madueke’s exit was imminent: “I want just players that are happy to be with us. The happy, they are free to go”.
Madueke has agreed to a five-year contract with Arsenal, keeping him at the Emirates until 2030. His versatility, as he can play on either wing, makes him a valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s team, providing depth behind Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. While some fans have questioned the logic of signing another right winger, Arteta reportedly sees Madueke as a high-quality rotational option who can unlock low-block defenses with his flair and dribbling.
Chelsea had initially set a £50 million minimum asking price, hoping to secure a profit on their original investment. Arsenal’s final offer, reportedly around £55 million, met the valuation, paving the way for the transfer to be completed. Despite the club’s enthusiasm, the move has stirred mixed reactions among supporters, with some launching a petition opposing the signing.
Madueke is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days before being unveiled as an Arsenal player. With the Gunners also pursuing Viktor Gyokeres and previously linked to Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze, this signing signals their intent to build a squad capable of challenging for major honors after a trophyless 2024/25 season.
