According to ESPN, Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has confirmed that Arsenal recently turned down an approach to re-sign forward Gabriel Jesus. Pereira revealed that Palmeiras had considered bringing back the Brazil international to strengthen their squad ahead of next year’s Club World Cup. However, Arsenal firmly rejected the bid, stating there were “no conditions whatsoever” for negotiating the player’s transfer.
Gabriel Jesus began his career at Palmeiras before moving to Manchester City in 2017. After a successful stint at City, where he won four Premier League titles, he joined Arsenal in 2022 for £45 million. Despite a promising start, Jesus has struggled with injuries and form this season, failing to score in 11 appearances.
Palmeiras’ interest in re-signing Jesus was driven by their desire to bolster their squad for the upcoming Club World Cup. Pereira stated, “We got in touch with Arsenal, and they said ‘Leila, there are no conditions whatsoever. We are not going to negotiate the player.’ he emphasized that Palmeiras values their current squad and does not believe in signing star players as a shortcut to success.
Arsenal’s decision to reject the bid reflects their commitment to retaining Jesus despite his current struggles. The club is aware of his potential and believes he can regain his form with more game time. Pereira also denied rumors of Palmeiras’ interest in Flamengo forward Gabriel Barbosa, known as “Gabigol,” stating, “Gabigol isn’t coming either.
The rejection of the bid highlights Arsenal’s confidence in their squad and their belief in Jesus’ ability to bounce back. As Palmeiras continues to prepare for the Club World Cup, they will have to look for other options to strengthen their team. Meanwhile, Jesus will be looking to prove his worth and regain his form at Arsenal.
