Mikel Arteta has been handed a fresh update on Kai Havertz after the Arsenal forward picked up a nasty head injury during the team’s Champions League defeat to Inter Milan. Havertz was forced off the pitch in the final moments of the match after clashing heads with Inter defender Yann Bisseck.
Havertz left the field with blood pouring from his head and required stitches. Arteta confirmed that Havertz’s availability for the upcoming match against Chelsea is in doubt. “Kai has a big cut,” Arteta said. “He needed to come off because he needed some stitches. Hopefully, he will be okay for the weekend.”
Despite the injury, Havertz’s inclusion in Germany’s squad for upcoming games against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary suggests that his absence from the Arsenal lineup might be short-lived.
Arteta also addressed concerns about Mikel Merino, who was taken off at half-time after a head injury. Merino did not suffer a concussion but was feeling unwell, leading to his substitution.
