Ray Parlour predicts a two-horse race for the Premier League title, dismissing Manchester City and Chelsea while backing Arsenal and Liverpool.
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour predicts a two-horse race for the Premier League title, insisting that only Arsenal and Liverpool are strong enough to challenge for the crown this season. His comments follow Arsenal’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Manchester City, where Gabriel Martinelli rescued a late point at the Emirates Stadium.
Parlour, fondly nicknamed “The Romford Pele”, has dismissed the chances of Manchester City and Chelsea, declaring that the title fight will come down to just Arsenal and Liverpool.
“I don’t think Man City can challenge for the title – I really don’t – and I don’t think Chelsea can, so I really believe it’s only Arsenal and Liverpool in the race,” Parlour told Hayters.
Liverpool, led by new boss Arne Slot, have started the season in perfect form with five straight wins. Parlour highlighted their efficiency, warning that once they hit top gear, they could be unstoppable.
“Liverpool haven’t played great this season so far but they’ve won five games out of five. Once they click into gear… then we could have a problem,” he added.
Arsenal’s Premier League Title Credentials
Arsenal, who have finished runners-up in the last three campaigns, remain well-placed to push again. According to Parlour, Mikel Arteta’s side must stay consistent and seize on any Liverpool slip-ups, particularly if injuries hit key players like Virgil van Dijk.
Drawing from history, Parlour reminded fans of Arsenal’s 1997–98 triumph when they overturned a 12-point gap to win the league.
“In ’98, we were 12 points behind and we managed to come back, so five points is nothing really,” he recalled.
