Arsenal finds themselves on high alert as the transfer saga surrounding Julian Alvarez unfolds. The Argentine forward has expressed his desire to play a more prominent role at City where he has been forced to play as second choice to Erling Haaland for the majority of his two years at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola, City’s manager, has taken a firm position on Alvarez’s future. Despite Alvarez’s frustration over limited playing time, Guardiola remains open to the possibility of his departure. “I know he wants to play in important moments,” Guardiola said, “but the other players want that too.” The decision ultimately lies with Alvarez, who will decide his future after the Olympics.

Arsenal had initially planned to start the new season maintaining Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as their centre forward. However, Guardiola’s response to Alvarez’s announcement could trigger a rethink at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have already signed top City players, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, but Alvarez’s availability may entice them to make another move.

The challenge lies in the reported price tag, according to The Mirror City wants around £80 million for the World Cup winner, which may be too much for Arsenal. Still, if homegrown talents like Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson leave, the Gunners could free up funds for a significant bid.

At 24, Alvarez is still at the prime of his career; his two seasons at City have resulted in back-to-back titles, and he has 20 goals in 44 Premier League games. Alvarez, who plays mostly as a midfielder under Guardiola, may provide Arsenal the firepower they want. His frustration over limited opportunities in high-profile matches has fueled speculation about his departure.

As the transfer window continues, Arsenal faces a crucial decision. Alvarez’s availability meets their requirements, but the financial aspect remains a concern. If the Gunners can secure the funds, they might just make a move for the talented Argentine.
