Fabrizio Romano, via Daily Briefing with GiveMeSport, indicates that Riccardo Calafiori’s future is uncertain following Italy’s surprise defeat to Switzerland in the Euros. Calafiori favoured a move to Juventus earlier this year and continues to do so, mainly because Thiago Motta, his former boss at Bologna, is currently the Juventus manager. However, the transfer is complicated by a strained relationship between Bologna and Juventus over Motta’s move.

With Italy out of the Euros, Bologna hopes Premier League clubs will compete for Calafiori. Arsenal is closely watching the situation, though no negotiations have begun. Chelsea, which has scouted Calafiori, is also interested in signing a left-footed center-back. Other clubs might enter the race as well.

🚨 @FabrizioRomano: “For Calafiori, Arsenal made an enquiry to understand the situation of the player. I mean, it’s also normal when you are looking for a left-footed player, a left-foot defender. Calafiori is one of the best available now on the market.”
Romano reports that Arsenal is planning an initial meeting to understand Calafiori’s situation, as Bologna is prepared to sell the defender for £34-38 million (€40-45 million). Despite Calafiori’s preference for Juventus, Bologna’s complicated relationship with Juve may hinder the transfer.
