The 27-year-old forward has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Arsenal on a five-year contract, signaling his strong desire to return to English football. While a final agreement between the clubs is still pending, discussions over the transfer fee are progressing steadily.

Sporting CP, who signed Gyökeres from Coventry City in 2023, are holding firm on their valuation. Club president Frederico Varandas has dismissed any notion of a “gentleman’s agreement” and insists the striker will only be sold at fair market value—believed to be upwards of £75 million.

Gyökeres has been in sensational form, scoring 54 goals in 52 appearances during the 2024–25 season and helping Sporting secure both the Portuguese league title and domestic cup. Since arriving in Lisbon, he has netted 97 goals in 102 games, making him one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

His standout performances include a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City, which further elevated his profile among Europe’s elite clubs.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyökeres comes after a season plagued by injuries to key forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, which left the Gunners without a recognized No. 9 for much of the campaign. Manager Mikel Arteta is eager to bolster his attacking options ahead of preseason, and Gyökeres has emerged as the club’s top target.

The Gunners have already secured the signings of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, signaling their intent to challenge for major honors in the upcoming season.

Sporting have granted Gyökeres an extended break from preseason training, a move widely interpreted as a sign that a transfer is imminent. While nothing is finalized yet, all signs point to a blockbuster move that could reshape Arsenal’s frontline.

If completed, the deal would mark one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer—and a bold statement of intent from the Gunners.
