Nigel Winterburn urges Arsenal to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as a dynamic replacement for Gabriel Martinelli amid transfer uncertainty.
Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has identified Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as a potential “game-changer” in the transfer market. With speculation surrounding Gabriel Martinelli’s future, Winterburn believes Eze could be the ideal replacement to strengthen Arsenal’s left wing.
Gabriel Martinelli has been linked with top European clubs including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and several teams in the Saudi Pro League. Although no official bid has been made, Arsenal are preparing for the possibility of his departure. The club is actively scouting for dynamic attackers who can fill the void Martinelli might leave behind.
Eberechi Eze has emerged as a top transfer target for Arsenal. The Crystal Palace midfielder is known for his creativity, dribbling, and versatility. He can play as a No.10 or on the left wing, making him a strong candidate to replace Martinelli.
Nigel Winterburn, a former Arsenal defender, speaking to Metro praised Eze’s qualities:
“He’s going to compete with Martinelli. All the players we’re being linked with suggest they want to strengthen on the left side. That’s where they’re feeling at the moment where the competition isn’t as strong as it should be.”
Winterburn added:
“He’s a player who I think is a game-changer. He’s a lovely player. Would I love to have him in the Arsenal squad? Of course I would.”
Crystal Palace reportedly value Eze at £68 million, but Arsenal are hoping to negotiate a lower fee before the transfer window closes on September 1. The club is cautious about overspending but sees Eze as a long-term investment.
While pundits like Rio Ferdinand have questioned how Eze would fit into Mikel Arteta’s starting XI, Winterburn believes his versatility is key. Eze could rotate with Martin Ødegaard in the attacking midfield role or directly challenge Martinelli on the left wing.
