Arsenal are confronted with a substantial issue concerning the potential recruitment of £62m transfer target Matheus Cunha.
Matheus Cunha is one name that has caught Arsenal’s attention as they look to bolster their roster ahead of the summer. The Brazilian forward, currently playing for Wolves, has been in impressive form, scoring 31 goals in 85 appearances since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2023. However, despite his on-field prowess, Arsenal has one major concern about signing him.
According to talkSPORT, Arteta is concerned about Cunha’s character following some heated moments this season. The 25-year-old has had several hot-headed moments this season, which have raised red flags for the North London club. Cunha was recently sent off for violent conduct in Wolves’ FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth after lashing out and appearing to headbutt Milos Kerkez. This incident led to a three-game suspension, and Cunha could face further disciplinary action for improper conduct.

Earlier in the season, Cunha was banned for two games and fined £80,000 after clashing with a member of Ipswich Town’s security team. These incidents have made Arteta cautious about bringing Cunha to Arsenal, as the club values discipline and professionalism both on and off the pitch.
Despite these concerns, there is no denying Cunha’s talent. He has been a standout performer for Wolves, scoring five goals in six games since the start of February. His ability to find the back of the net and create scoring opportunities makes him an attractive prospect for any top club. Arsenal legend Martin Keown praised Cunha’s ability, comparing his goal-scoring prowess to that of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Keown also emphasized the need for Cunha to cut out the uglier parts of his game to reach his full potential.
Arsenal finds themselves in a dilemma. On one hand, Cunha’s talent and goal-scoring ability could significantly strengthen their attacking options. On the other hand, his fiery temperament and disciplinary issues could disrupt the harmony within the squad. Arteta must weigh these factors carefully before making a decision.
