Arsenal are reportedly on the cusp of appointing Andrea Berta as their new sporting director, replacing Edu, however a potential obstacle may arise.
Arsenal is currently facing a significant challenge in their search for a new sporting director. Following the unexpected departure of Edu Gaspar earlier this season, the club has been on the lookout for a suitable replacement to lead their player recruitment efforts. Edu’s exit left a void that interim sporting director Jason Ayto has been filling temporarily. However, the club’s lack of transfer activity has raised concerns, especially after the season-ending injury to forward Kai Havertz.
Several high-profile names have been linked with the vacant sporting director position, including Real Sociedad’s Roberto Olabe and Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos. Recently, former Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta emerged as the frontrunner for the role. Berta, who spent 12 years with Atletico, is known for his ability to secure big-name transfers and identify bargain deals.

Despite reports suggesting that Arsenal was close to finalizing an agreement with Berta, the club now faces a last-minute hijack threat from Serie A side AC Milan. According to Corriere della Sera, Milan is well aware of Arsenal’s move for Berta and is attempting to secure his services at the eleventh hour. Milan’s search for a new sporting director has intensified as they aim to address their current struggles in the Serie A, where they sit ninth in the table.
Arsenal’s recruitment process has been thorough, and the club is keen to finalize the deal with Berta to ensure he can start preparing for the crucial summer transfer window. The appointment of a new sporting director is vital for Mikel Arteta’s side as they aim to strengthen their squad and compete at the highest level.
