Arsenal are reportedly considering a move to sign Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, according to The Athletic, as Mikel Arteta attempts to strengthen his team before the transfer market closes.

Arsenal’s interest in Tickle comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen their goalkeeping options. With Aaron Ramsdale potentially on his way out, the Gunners are keen to secure a reliable backup for David Raya, who recently made his loan move from Brentford permanent. Tickle, who has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in British football, fits the profile of a homegrown player that Arsenal is looking to add to their squad.

Sam Tickle, 22, has been a standout performer for Wigan Athletic. He made his first-team debut in the 2022/23 season and quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Last season, Tickle made 52 appearances in all competitions, keeping 18 clean sheets and earning the club’s Player of the Season award. His impressive performances also earned him a call-up to the England U21 squad.

Tickle is under contract with Wigan until 2028, which means the club is under no immediate pressure to sell. However, Arsenal’s interest could present an attractive opportunity for the young goalkeeper to join a Premier League club and compete at a higher level. The move would also provide Arsenal with a promising talent who could develop into a key player for the future.
