Arsenal confirm the high-profile signing of Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, handing the prolific Swedish striker the iconic No.14 shirt once worn by Thierry Henry.
Arsenal have officially confirm the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP, marking one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer, the 27-year-old joins the Gunners on a five-year contract, with the deal reportedly worth €63.5 million, plus an additional €10 million in performance-based add-ons.
Gyökeres arrives in North London after a sensational two-year spell in Portugal, where he netted 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting.
His prolific form helped the club secure back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and a national cup, while also earning him the league’s top scorer accolade in both seasons. On the international stage, he’s been equally impressive, scoring 12 goals in his last 17 appearances for Sweden.
In a move that signals both confidence and ambition, Gyökeres will wear Arsenal’s iconic No.14 shirt—a number famously worn by club legend Thierry Henry, who scored a record 228 goals for the Gunners. The shirt was last worn by Eddie Nketiah, who departed for Crystal Palace last August.
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his excitement, saying:
“Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to start working with him.”
Sporting Director Andrea Berta added:

Gyökeres is set to join Arsenal’s squad immediately for their pre-season tour in Asia, where fans will get their first glimpse of the new No.14 in action. With his dynamic style, physicality, and clinical finishing, Arsenal supporters are hopeful that Gyökeres will be the missing piece in their pursuit of Premier League glory.
