Arsenal close to sealing Gyokeres agreement as the striker snubs United interest for a £64m switch to the Emirates.
Arsenal are on the brink of completing a blockbuster £64 million transfer for Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, with report from The Athletic suggesting that the Gunners have reached a near-total agreement with Sporting CP for the prolific forward. The deal includes a fixed fee of £55 million, with £8.6 million in performance-based bonuses, and Gyokeres is expected to sign a five-year contract.
Despite interest from several top European clubs, including Manchester United, Gyokeres has made it clear that his “only desire” is to join Arsenal. His agent even waived commission fees to help push the deal through.
The striker reportedly refused to return to pre-season training with Sporting, citing a broken agreement over his release clause, and has involved legal counsel to resolve the dispute.
Manchester United’s hopes of hijacking the deal were dashed, in part due to the actions of their new manager Ruben Amorim, who previously coached Gyokeres at Sporting.

While Amorim was keen to reunite with the striker, his involvement appears to have backfired. According to insiders, Amorim’s aggressive push and United’s inability to offer Champions League football “completely shut the door” on their pursuit.
Gyokeres would become Arsenal’s fifth signing of the summer, joining Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Noni Madueke. With 54 goals last season and 97 in two years at Sporting, Gyokeres is expected to fill the long-standing void of a natural No. 9 at the Emirates.
