Sporting CP defeated French club LOSC Lille 2-0 in a dramatic UEFA Champions League match on Tuesday night. According to Graeme Bailey from HITC, scouts from Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea attended the match to watch Sporting’s top striker, Viktor Gyokeres.
Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish international, has been in scintillating form this season, and he did not disappoint. He opened the scoring for Sporting CP in the 28th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Gyokeres’ performance was a key factor in Sporting’s win, and he continued to impress throughout the match with his movement, strength, and ability to create chances.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are in the market for a prolific striker, and Gyokeres fits the bill perfectly. The 26-year-old has an impressive track record, having scored 52 goals in 57 games for Sporting CP. His ability to consistently find the back of the net has made him a hot commodity in European football.
Gyokeres might offer Arsenal with the firepower they need to supplement their offensive options, especially with Gabriel Jesus struggling to maintain consistency. Chelsea, on the other hand, are looking for an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson, who has yet to make a significant impact since his move to the Premier League.
While both clubs are keen on securing Gyokeres’ services, a January move seems unlikely. Sporting CP are determined to keep their star striker at least until the end of the season. Any potential transfer would likely require meeting his substantial release clause, which stands at £84 million. This hefty price tag means that Arsenal and Chelsea might have to wait until the summer transfer window to make their move.
