Arsenal climbed to second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool, as Kai Havertz’s first-half goal led to a narrow 1-0 triumph over Ipswich at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night, moving up to second place in the Premier League table. The only goal of the match came in the 23rd minute when Kai Havertz turned home Leandro Trossard’s cross from close range.

Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, Arsenal struggled to extend their lead. Gabriel Magalhaes missed a golden opportunity to double the lead, heading a Declan Rice corner wide from a few yards out. Ipswich, who had just 16% possession in the first half, showed more ambition after the restart but lacked quality in the rare moments they reached the final third.
Arsenal’s defense held firm, with Ipswich only managing three shots throughout the match, none of which troubled goalkeeper David Raya. However, manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping for more cutting edge in their upcoming matches against Brentford and Brighton.
The win moves Arsenal above Chelsea, who lost to Fulham on Boxing Day, and leaves them six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
