Anders Limpar urges Mikel Arteta to free Eberechi Eze to rediscover his best form
Arsenal legend Anders Limpar has urged Mikel Arteta to change tactics and give Eberechi Eze the freedom to play his natural game. The Swedish icon believes freeing the England midfielder from rigid structure could reignite his confidence and creativity at Arsenal.
Since his £60 million summer move from Crystal Palace, Eberechi Eze has yet to make the expected impact at the Emirates. Arteta has mostly used him on the left wing, where competition from Gabriel Martinelli remains fierce.
Limpar believes this positional restriction has stifled Eze’s strengths. “We haven’t seen even 10 per cent of Ebere Eze’s best in an Arsenal shirt,” Limpar told Hajper, insisting that Eze needs to roam freely across midfield rather than stay fixed on the flank.
Limpar Calls for Tactical Freedom
The former Arsenal winger argued that Eze thrives when allowed to move between lines and exploit spaces — just as he did at Crystal Palace. “Eze must be given freedom to roam and not be held down to one position,” Limpar added.
At Palace, Eze was known for his vision, dribbling, and ability to link play. By giving him similar creative license at Arsenal, Arteta could unlock a more dynamic attacking presence.
With Arsenal competing in the Premier League and Champions League, Arteta must find the right tactical balance. His system demands discipline, but Eze’s natural flair may need a looser role to flourish.
Arteta has previously noted that some new signings need time to adapt, and Eze’s adjustment may require patience — but Limpar’s advice could accelerate his progress.
