Alan Shearer has expressed his beliefs in a recent interview, that Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England’s new manager could pave the way for Ben White’s return to the national team. Tuchel, who has been appointed to take over from Gareth Southgate starting January 1, 2025, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the team.

Ben White, the Arsenal defender, has been absent from the England squad since the 2022 World Cup due to a disagreement with former coaching staff. However, Shearer is optimistic that Tuchel’s leadership could help mend fences and bring White back into the fold.

“With Thomas Tuchel taking charge in the New Year, I wonder if it is a chance to see Ben White come back into the England fold.

“White’s situation is a strange one, and I for one don’t know the background; we all hear different rumours as to why he left the England camp.

“I suspect that Thomas Tuchel will want to have a conversation with Ben or Arsenal and try to find out why he doesn’t want to be selected if that is the case. If Ben doesn’t, then you must respect that.

“Thomas Tuchel will likely have a conversation with him and see whether he’s open to coming back into the squad.”

Shearer highlighted Tuchel’s impressive track record, including leading Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2021, as a reason why White might reconsider his stances. The former England striker emphasized the importance of having a manager who can deliver a trophy, and believes Tuchel is the right person for the job.

White’s potential return would be a significant boost for the team, given his versatility and strong performances for Arsenal. Shearer’s confidence in Tuchel’s ability to unite the squad and create a winning mentality is shared by many fans and analysts.

As England gears up for the 2026 World Cup, the appointment of Tuchel and the possible return of Ben White could be game-changers for the national team. Shearer’s endorsement of Tuchel’s appointment underscores the hope and excitement surrounding the future of English football.
