Alexander Isak’s impressive performances for Magpies this season would require a British-record transfer fee to acquire the 25-year-old this summer.
Legendary Newcastle United striker, Alan Shearer has named Chelsea as the only club he believes could afford the British-record fee for Alexander Isak this summer. Isak, who has been in blistering form for Newcastle, is attracting interest from several top clubs including Arsenal, but Shearer thinks only Chelsea has the financial muscle to make a move for the talented Swedish striker.
Isak has been a standout performer for Newcastle this season, scoring 15 goals in 18 Premier League games. His impressive performances have caught the attention of many clubs, but his hefty price tag, rumored to be around Β£150 million, has made potential suitors think twice.
Shearer pointed out that Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) make it difficult for most clubs to afford Isak. He mentioned that even without these rules, he is unsure if any club could meet Newcastle’s asking price. Shearer believes that Chelsea, with their history of big-money signings, might be the only club capable of making such a move.
Other than possibly Chelsea, I genuinely donβt think that anybody could afford to buy Alexander Isak; because of the way that the rules are structured with PSR, I donβt think that anybody could afford him,’ he toldΒ Betfair.
‘Iβll never say PSR rules are a good thing – even without them in place, Iβm not sure if anybody would be able to go to the price that Newcastle would ask for to sell him.
‘Iβd guess that they wouldnβt even entertain it. If youβve paid Β£63 million for someone and heβs smashing the league up like he is right now, what would the price be?
‘Iβve looked at Β£150million being talked about, but I donβt think that they would even entertain that, why would they?
‘The problem then would be getting somebody in who could do as good of a job. That, at the minute, is what everybody needs – a centre-forward.
‘There isnβt a club in the country who wouldnβt go out and buy a centre-forward like Isak if one was available.’
Chelsea has been known to splash the cash in recent years, signing players like Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo for significant fees. With their financial backing and ambition to compete at the highest level, Chelsea could be a realistic option for Isak if Newcastle decides to sell.
