Former England captain and Premier League legend Alan Shearer has pinpointed what Arsenal must do to stop dropping points and mount a serious title challenge this season. Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Shearer highlighted three key areas that need improvement: discipline, consistency, and mental toughness.

Discipline has been a major issue for Arsenal, with the team receiving three red cards in just eight games this season . Shearer emphasized that such lapses are costing the Gunners valuable points and cannot continue if they hope to compete at the highest level. He pointed out that Arsenal has accumulated 18 red cards in the last five years, the most of any team in the Premier League. Improving their disciplinary record is crucial for their success.

Consistency is another area Shearer identified as vital. He noted that while Arsenal has shown flashes of brilliance, they have also been prone to inconsistent performances. To challenge for the title, Shearer believes the team must maintain a high level of performance throughout the season, avoiding the dips in form that have plagued them in the past.

Finally, mental toughness is key. Shearer stressed the importance of resilience and the ability to bounce back from setbacks. He pointed out that Arsenal’s recent defeat to Bournemouth, where they were reduced to ten men, showcased a lack of composure under pressure. Developing mental toughness will help the team handle difficult situations better and secure crucial points.

Shearer’s insights provide a clear roadmap for Arsenal as they aim to improve their performance and challenge for the Premier League title. By addressing these areas, the Gunners can hope to avoid dropping points and stay competitive at the top of the table.
