Allan Shearer backs Arsenal striker signing as the key to turning Mikel Arteta’s squad into genuine title contenders.

Premier League legend Alan Shearer believes Arsenal’s failure to sign a prolific striker has cost them a realistic shot at the title. Speaking on Amazon Prime ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League clash with PSV, Shearer insisted that a reliable goal-scorer would have transformed Arsenal’s season.

Arsenal currently trail Liverpool by 13 points in the Premier League. Shearer pointed to the club’s lack of a proven No. 9 as a major reason for their drop-off.

“There’s no doubt—they’d be right in the mix if they had a great striker,” Shearer said.

The Gunners have been hit hard by injuries. Kai Havertz, who had taken on the central striker role, is out for the season with a hamstring injury. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Gabriel Martinelli have also missed key matches, leaving Arsenal’s attack short on firepower.

Rooney Echoes Shearer’s Frustration

Wayne Rooney backed Shearer’s assessment, calling Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker last summer their “biggest mistake.”

“It’s tough to find the right player in January, but you need someone who can score consistently,” Rooney said.

Despite their injury woes, Arsenal managed a 3–0 first-half lead against PSV, with midfielder Mikel Merino filling in as a makeshift striker. While the performance showed tactical adaptability, Shearer backs Arsenal striker signing to ensure long-term success in the Premier League.

A Proven Forward Changes Everything

Shearer backs Arsenal striker signing to help them win tight matches and navigate high-stakes knockout games. He cited Mohamed Salah’s impact at Liverpool as proof that one elite forward can elevate an entire squad.

As the Gunners look ahead to the next transfer window, Arsenal signing a striker could finally end their title drought and compete with the best in England.
