Andrea Berta has become a potential target for Arsenal’s sporting director position after his recent departure from Atletico Madrid.
Former Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta is reportedly in advanced talks to take on the sporting director role at the North London club according to Fabrizio Romano. This move comes as Arsenal seeks to fill the void left by Edu Gaspar, who departed from the role in November 2024.
Andrea Berta, who left Atletico Madrid in January 2025 after a successful 12-year tenure, has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the position. During his time at Atletico, Berta played a pivotal role in the club’s success, overseeing key signings and helping the team secure numerous domestic and international titles.
Arsenal’s search for a new sporting director has been extensive, with several high-profile names being considered. Alongside Berta, other potential candidates include Roberto Olabe of Real Sociedad and Luis Campos of Paris Saint-Germain. However, Berta’s experience and track record have made him a standout choice for the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s head coach, has remained tight-lipped about the ongoing search for a new sporting director. In a recent press conference, Arteta stated, “Our plan is to nail the process that we believe is the best to try to find the person that is the best one for the moment that Arsenal is in right now. That’s what the club is trying to do”.
Berta’s potential appointment is seen as a strategic move by Arsenal to strengthen their football operations and build a competitive squad capable of challenging for top honors. His expertise in player recruitment and development could prove invaluable as the club looks to return to its former glory.
