Arsenal suffered a damaging 1-0 defeat to West Ham at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, with Martin Odegaard issuing a defiant message to teammates after the game.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, has given his teammates a rallying cry following Arsenal’s heartbreaking 1-0 loss to West Ham United, asking them to stay strong and concentrated on the difficulties that lie ahead. The defeat, which came courtesy of a first-half goal by Jarrod Bowen, has left the Gunners trailing Liverpool by eight points in the Premier League title race.

Odegaard, who has been a pivotal figure for Arsenal this season, did not mince words in his post-match assessment. “We’re really disappointed,” he admitted. “It felt like we had a good chance today, but the overall performance wasn’t good enough, and that’s a big blow for everyone”. Despite the setback, the Norwegian playmaker emphasized the importance of bouncing back quickly and maintaining a positive mindset.

The loss to West Ham was particularly frustrating for Arsenal, as they dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Odegaard acknowledged this issue, stating, “We put a lot of pressure on them, but we lacked a bit of efficiency in the final third, the final pass, the final cross, and we should have been sharper and better around the box”. The Gunners’ task was made even more difficult when youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the 73rd minute, leaving them to play with ten men for the remainder of the match.

Despite the disappointment, Odegaard remains optimistic about Arsenal’s prospects. “It’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves,” he said. “We have to keep going. There are still many games to be played. The main thing now is to win the next one and work from there”. With key players like Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus sidelined due to injuries, the Gunners will need to dig deep and show resilience in the coming weeks.

Arsenal’s next challenge comes against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, where they will aim to return to winning ways. Odegaard’s message to his teammates is clear: stay focused, keep pushing, and don’t let this setback derail their campaign. The Premier League title race is still wide open, and the Gunners have the talent and determination to bounce back and keep their title ambitions alive.
