Micah Richards believes Arsenal will be ‘kicking themselves’ for failing to reinforce their squad during January following Liverpool’s win over Manchester City, which extended their lead at the top of the Premier League.
Former Manchester City and England defender Micah Richards, has highlighted a significant mistake made by Arsenal following Liverpool’s recent victory over Manchester City. The win allowed Liverpool to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table, leaving Arsenal trailing by 11 points.
Richards, a lifelong Arsenal fan, expressed his frustration with the Gunners’ failure to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window. He believes that Arsenal’s lack of depth, particularly in the attacking department, has cost them dearly in their pursuit of the Premier League title.
Richards pointed out in a recent Sky Sports broadcast, that Arsenal’s injury woes, including the absence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, have left them struggling to compete at the highest level. He emphasized that the club should have taken the opportunity to sign a top striker in January to bolster their chances of success.
Richards also praised Liverpool’s adaptability and resilience, noting that they have managed to find ways to win even when not playing their best football. He highlighted the importance of key players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who have been instrumental in Liverpool’s success this season.
Arsenal’s recent defeat to West Ham at the Emirates Stadium further dented their title hopes, leaving them eight points adrift of Liverpool with 11 games remaining in the campaign. Richards believes that Arsenal will be “kicking themselves” for not making the necessary signings in January, as their lack of squad depth has become a major obstacle in their quest for glory.
