Paul Merson predicts Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season if they beat Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.
Former Arsenal player and current football pundit Paul Merson has stirred things up once more in the Premier League’s ever-dramatic world with his most recent title prediction. As the season reaches its climax, Merson’s insights have added an extra layer of intrigue to the already intense title race between Arsenal and Liverpool.
Liverpool currently sit at the top of the Premier League table, holding an eight-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. The Reds have been in scintillating form this season, losing only one match under the management of Arne Slot. Arsenal, on the other hand, have been relentless in their pursuit, hoping to end their long wait for a Premier League title since their last triumph in 2004.
Merson, known for his candid and often bold predictions, has stated that Liverpool will clinch the Premier League title if they manage to defeat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. He believes that a victory for Liverpool in this crucial match would effectively end Arsenal’s title hopes, as it would restore Liverpool’s eight-point cushion at the top of the table.
“It was an embarrassing night at the Bernabeu for Manchester City,” Merson remarked, referring to City’s recent defeat to Real Madrid. “If Liverpool fail to win, they will be extremely disappointed. But I think Liverpool will rip City apart here. City have no chance.”
Despite Merson’s prediction, Arsenal remain determined to keep the pressure on Liverpool. The Gunners have a game in hand and can reduce Liverpool’s lead to five points if they secure a victory over West Ham on Saturday. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has been dealing with a number of injuries in attacking areas, but the team has shown resilience and determination throughout the season.
The upcoming fixtures for both teams will be crucial in determining the outcome of the title race. Liverpool’s next matches against Newcastle and Southampton will be key, as Merson expects them to secure 13 points out of a possible 15 against some of the top teams in the league. Arsenal, meanwhile, will need to capitalize on any slip-ups by Liverpool and continue their winning ways to keep their title dreams alive.
