The future of Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, is up in the air as Nottingham Forest sets its sights on the Brazilian football executive. Edu, who returned to Arsenal in 2019 and went on to become the club’s first sporting director, has played an important role in the club’s transfer activities. However, recent developments suggest that his tenure at the Emirates Stadium might be in jeopardy.
According to UOL, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis wants to recruit Edu, potentially offering him a role similar to that of a CEO at the City Ground. This position would see Edu oversee all football-related activities in the Midlands and play a significant role at Marinakis’ other clubs, including Rio Ave and Greek giants Olympiacos.
Edu has already overseen a busy summer transfer window at Arsenal. The Gunners secured the permanent signing of goalkeeper David Raya and brought in left-back Riccardo Calafiori. Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino is also on the verge of joining Arsenal. However, with Nottingham Forest’s interest looming, Edu faces a critical decision about his future.
It is unclear what his stance is on a move. The Brazilian is currently not under contract in North London due to being a permanent member of staff.
