William Gallas is of the opinion that signing former Chelsea striker Diego Costa as a free agent would initially ‘lift’ the Arsenal squad.
Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has recently suggested that signing former Chelsea striker Diego Costa as a free agent could initially improve the Arsenal squad. Gallas, who played for both Chelsea and Arsenal, believes that Costa’s fiery nature and winning attitude could lift the team’s spirits and provide a much-needed boost.
Costa, who has been without a club since his release from Brazilian side Gremio last year, is still highly regarded for his time at Chelsea, where he scored 52 goals in 89 league games and helped the Blues win multiple trophies. His impressive track record also includes over 100 goals for Atletico Madrid, where he lifted two La Liga titles and reached the Champions League final.
Gallas acknowledges that Costa’s character could be a double-edged sword. While his passion and drive could inspire his teammates, it might also lead to clashes with Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta. Gallas believes that Costa’s strong personality might not fit well with the current atmosphere at Arsenal, potentially causing friction within the squad.
Despite these concerns, Gallas sees the potential benefits of having Costa in the team, especially given Arsenal’s current injury crisis and lack of attacking options. With the transfer window closed, signing a free agent like Costa could be a viable solution to bolster the squad.
However, Gallas also points out that Costa’s history with Chelsea and the strong rivalry between the two London clubs might make the move controversial. He speculates that Costa might even turn down the offer due to the potential backlash from Chelsea fans.
