Arsenal Women secured a 2-0 victory over London City Lionesses in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round on Sunday, advancing to the quarter-finals. The match took place at Meadow Park, with goals from Laia Codina and Stina Blackstenius sealing the win.
Arsenal started the match brightly, with Mariona Caldentey seeing a deflected shot from the edge of the area gathered by Emily Orman. A Katie McCabe cross was met by Lotte Wubben-Moy, resulting in a goalmouth scramble. Frida Maanum’s follow-up shot was blocked, but Arsenal continued to press. The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Kyra Cooney-Cross sent the ball over towards the far post, where Codina was in the right place to nod it back across goal, looping it in for 1-0.
Arsenal maintained their dominance in the second half, with Stina Blackstenius adding a second goal in the 81st minute. Blackstenius won the ball high up the pitch, allowing Maanum to get a shot away. Emily Orman parried it back into Blackstenius’ path, and she tapped it across the line to double Arsenal’s lead.
