Alan Smith has identified two players Arsenal should release in order to generate funds to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has suggested that the club should consider selling Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to raise funds for a potential move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. Smith believes that Isak, who has been in excellent form this season, would be a valuable addition to Arsenal’s squad.
Smith’s comments come as Arsenal continues to struggle with injuries and inconsistent performances in front of goal. With Gabriel Jesus out due to injury and Kai Havertz as Arsenal’s top scorer with eight goals this season, Smith feels that securing a forward like Isak is crucial for the club’s title aspirations.
“Alexander Isak would probably be the number one target because he’s succeeded in the Premier League,” Smith told AceOdds. “There wouldn’t be any settling down period where you’re getting used to the league. He’s at a good age as well – mid-20s – and he showed it in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semis, what a fine player he is.”

Smith also emphasized the need for Arsenal to bring in a technically skilled forward who can fit into the club’s style of play and contribute goals. He believes that selling fringe players like Zinchenko and Jesus could free up the necessary funds to make a move for Isak.
“Zinchenko doesn’t get a game these days,” Smith added. “The two lads from Man City. When Man City are allowing title rivals to have a couple of players, you wonder why they are allowing that. We’ve probably seen the reason over the last two years.”
Smith’s advice highlights the importance of strategic player sales to fund key signings and strengthen the squad. As Arsenal continues to evaluate its transfer options, the club will need to weigh the potential benefits of bringing in a player like Isak against the impact of losing established squad members.
