The Gunners profited from a training camp in Dubai last season, and a repeat of this experience is possible next month.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his delight after his team’s dominant 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb, which has all but guaranteed their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. The win, which came at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, means Arsenal can now look forward to some warm-weather training next month.
Arteta’s side took the lead just two minutes into the game with a powerful half-volley from Declan Rice, following a clever lay-off by Kai Havertz. Havertz himself doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 66th minute with a well-placed header from a Gabriel Martinelli cross. Captain Martin Odegaard added a third goal in stoppage time, tapping home from close range after a cross from Leandro Trossard.
Speaking after the match, Arteta said, “I’m very happy overall, it’s a massive step forward tonight. It puts us in a really strong position to play the last game in Girona. We scored three goals, created plenty of chances, dominated the game, didn’t concede a shot and another clean sheet at home. So overall, very happy.”
The victory lifts Arsenal to third place in the UEFA Champions League standings, with the top eight teams assured of automatic qualification for the knockout stages. With just one game remaining, Arsenal can now focus on their match against Girona next week, knowing that even a defeat could still see them progress.
Arteta added, “We are in a really, really good position and a lot of things have to happen, but we have to do our job in Girona and win the game.”
The Arsenal manager also revealed plans to take advantage of the lighter schedule by organizing a training camp in Dubai next month. “If we earn the right to do that, that would be great because obviously it has been a super busy schedule with a lot of demands and things that happen. So, if we can achieve that, that would be great.
The Gunners’ performance against Dinamo Zagreb was a morale boost following their recent 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League. With the Champions League knockout stages within reach, Arteta’s side will be looking to build on this success as they continue their campaign.
