Hertfordshire Police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy had been arrested for social media abuse sent to Sophia, the wife of Kai Havertz.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the online abuse directed at Sophia Havertz, the wife of Arsenal forward Kai Havertz. The teenager, from St Albans, was taken into custody on suspicion of malicious communications after Sophia shared screenshots of the abusive messages she received on Instagram following Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
The abuse included threats and offensive remarks, with one message even targeting Sophia’s unborn child. Sophia, who is expecting her first child with Kai, publicly condemned the messages and urged people to be more respectful. The incident has sparked outrage among fans and prompted calls for stricter measures against online abuse.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed the arrest and stated that the teenager has been released on bail while investigations continue. Arsenal has also launched an internal investigation and is working with data technology company Signify to identify the individuals responsible for the abuse.
