Arsenal trails the league leaders by six points and has played one more game. However, Emmanuel Petit enumerated a number of factors that he feels give them the advantage.
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has expressed his opinion that Arsenal can still overtake Liverpool in the Premier League title race during an appearance on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football. Despite Liverpool holding a six-point lead and having a game in hand, Petit remains confident in Arsenal’s chances.
Liverpool’s recent 2-0 victory over Brentford, secured by Darwin Nunez’s stoppage-time double, extended their lead over Arsenal. However, Petit pointed out that Liverpool’s confidence has been shaky, and this could give Arsenal the edge they need.
Petit, who was part of the Arsenal team that won the title in the 1997-98 season, argued that the Premier League race is far from over. He highlighted the importance of consistency and pointed out that Arsenal has been scoring goals at a similar rate to Liverpool. “Liverpool have 50 goals, Arsenal have 43. They are almost the same in terms of defense, 20, 21. The difference is not that huge. Consistency in results is the most important thing in the Premier League.”
Petit also emphasized the psychological aspect of the title race. He believes that Arsenal’s players, despite the pressure, have the potential to rise to the occasion. “Liverpool and other teams are dealing with so many competitions. Arsenal, they have so many injured players and they’re going to be back soon, so they’ll be fresh. They will only concentrate on the Premier League and Champions League.”
Locking horns with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, Petit faced some skepticism. Carragher argued that Liverpool’s experience and calmness give them an edge, but Petit remained steadfast in his belief. “Things go so fast in the Premier League.
