Renee Slegers has been confirmed as the permanent head coach of Arsenal Women, following an unbeaten interim tenure.
Arsenal Women have officially confirmed the appointment of Renee Slegers as their permanent head coach. Slegers, who took over on an interim basis in October 2024 following the departure of Jonas Eidevall, has been appointed until the end of the 2025/26 season.
During her interim tenure, Slegers led the team to an impressive unbeaten run of 10 wins and one draw in all competitions. Her leadership saw Arsenal rise from fifth to third in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and secure automatic qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Her efforts earned her the Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month award for December.
Slegers expressed her excitement about the permanent role, stating, “I’m so excited to be continuing our journey together. It’s a wonderful honour to represent this club as head coach and I have so much belief in what we can all achieve together.” She also highlighted the strong sense of unity and collective responsibility among the players and staff as key factors in their success.
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley added, “We’re delighted to appoint Renée as our permanent head coach. Renée has excelled during her time as interim head coach, bringing our team, club, and supporters together and leading us to a hugely impressive run of results and performances.” Co-chair Josh Kroenke echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence in Slegers’ ability to lead the team to further success.
Slegers’ first match as permanent head coach will be against Crystal Palace in the WSL on Sunday. With her impressive track record and strong belief in the team’s potential, expectations are high for what she can achieve with Arsenal Women moving forward.
