Arsenal’s transfer news update as the January window prepares to open next week.
Arsenal has been urged to make a bold move in the upcoming January transfer window by splashing out £100 million on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. Former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke believes that Arsenal needs to bolster their attacking options if they are to have a genuine shot at the Premier League title.
Yorke pointed out that Arsenal has been missing a “number nine” – a prolific center-forward who can consistently score goals. Despite having talented players like Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, the Gunners have struggled to convert their dominance into victories in recent matches. Yorke emphasized that Isak’s goal-scoring prowess could be the missing piece in Arsenal’s puzzle.
“Everyone keeps banging on about Arsenal missing a number nine, and I do think there’s something to it. You watch their games, the last two, they’ve been so dominant and haven’t been able to win the games,” he told sportlens.com.
“Let’s have it right, they’ve dropped four vital points in their two last Premier League fixtures against Everton and Fulham.
“They’re missing something. I can’t understand why Arsenal hesitated when they had the opportunity to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad. They sat on their hands, and Newcastle swooped in and took him. That was ridiculous.
“If Arsenal want to win the Premier League title, they should go to Newcastle and bang £100million on the table for Isak as soon as the January transfer window opens.
“I think the kid looks really good whenever I see him play. He does all the right things properly. He’s a threat. He would score so many goals playing for Arsenal.”
Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022, has been in fine form, scoring 41 goals in 67 league games. His ability to find the back of the net consistently has caught the attention of many, including Arsenal legend Paul Merson, who believes Isak is on another level compared to current Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.
While Arsenal is reportedly interested in Isak, the challenge lies in meeting Newcastle’s asking price, which is believed to start at £115 million. This means Arsenal might have to increase their offer to secure the services of the talented striker.
Yorke is confident that Isak could significantly enhance Arsenal’s title chances. With Liverpool and Chelsea also in the mix, Yorke believes that Arsenal needs to make a decisive move to stay competitive.
