Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Liverpool ahead of the winter break kept the pressure on Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea and Manchester City.
Alessia Russo’s first-half goal gave Arsenal a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield today. The win marks Arsenal’s seventh consecutive victory in all competitions and keeps them within striking distance of the Premier League leaders.
The match started with Liverpool pressing high and creating early chances, but Arsenal weathered the storm and settled into the game. The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Katie McCabe delivered a low corner to the near post, and the ball found its way to Russo, who tapped it home.
Liverpool had their chances, including a penalty that Mariona Caldentey unfortunately hit the post with. Despite the missed opportunity, Liverpool continued to push for an equalizer, but Arsenal’s defense held firm.
The victory moves Arsenal to within a point of second-placed Manchester City, though they still trail leaders Chelsea by seven points. With the winter break approaching, Arsenal will look to maintain their momentum in the upcoming fixtures.
