The January transfer window is set to open in just over two weeks, and Mikel Arteta’s team is likely to make some moves, amid speculation of a potential deal for Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres.

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has ignited a firestorm of controversy with his recent comments about Viktor Gyokeres and his potential move to Arsenal. Gyokeres, the Swedish striker currently shining at Sporting Lisbon, has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.

After transferring from Coventry City to Sporting Lisbon in 2023, Viktor Gyokeres quickly became one of the top strikers in world football. In his debut season, he scored 43 goals across all competitions, leading Sporting to their first league title in three years.

This season, Gyokeres has continued his impressive form, netting 25 goals in various competitions, with an additional 10 goals for the Swedish national team, bringing his annual total to 60.

Despite his success, former Watford captain Troy Deeney has expressed doubts about Gyokeres’ ability to excel in the Premier League. Speaking to talkSPORT, Deeney expressed his doubts about Gyokeres’ ability to succeed in the Premier League. Despite Gyokeres’ impressive goal record, Deeney argued that the striker is “not a natural finisher” and warned that he would “get found out” at Arsenal. Drawing a comparison to Darwin Nunez, who struggled to maintain his prolific form after moving from Benfica to Liverpool, Deeney emphasized the disparity in quality between the Portuguese league and the English top flight.
