Several Premier League clubs are thought to have an interest in signing the 22-year-old winger.
Jose Mourinho has made a bold statement, urging Nico Williams to reject a potential move to Arsenal in favor of joining Real Madrid. The former Real Madrid manager, now leading Fenerbahce, expressed his admiration for the young Spanish winger and his belief that Williams would thrive at the Bernabeu.
Williams, who has been a standout performer for Athletic Club and the Spanish national team, has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Arsenal. Despite his impressive performances, Mourinho believes that Williams would be better suited to Real Madrid, where he could further develop his skills and compete at the highest level.
In a recent press conference, Mourinho praised Williams, saying, “Nico is a fantastic footballer. At the last Euros, everyone was talking about Yamal, Yamal, Yamal… who is obviously another fantastic young player. But personally, I prefer Nico. I hope he ends up at Real Madrid”.
Mourinho’s comments have added fuel to the speculation surrounding Williams’ future, as the winger’s current contract with Athletic Club includes a release clause of around £60 million. Arsenal, under the management of Mikel Arteta, had identified Williams as a potential target during the summer transfer window. However, the Gunners opted to sign Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea instead.
With Mourinho’s endorsement, the race for Williams’ signature is expected to intensify, with Real Madrid now emerging as a strong contender.
