Arsenal are reportedly considering hiring Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director following his sudden departure from Manchester United.
Arsenal has reportedly added Dan Ashworth to their list of potential candidates for the vacant sporting director position, following his recent departure from Manchester United, according to ESPN. Ashworth, who was dismissed by United after just five months in the role, is now being considered by Arsenal to replace Edu Gaspar, who announced his resignation last month.
Ashworth has a wealth of experience in football administration, having previously served as the FA Director of Elite Development and as the Sporting Director at Brighton & Hove Albion. His tenure at Manchester United was brief and reportedly ended due to internal conflicts.
Arsenal’s interest in Ashworth is partly due to his prior working relationship with Richard Garlick, Arsenal’s managing director, who also worked with Ashworth at West Bromwich Albion. This existing relationship gives Arsenal confidence that Ashworth could bring stability and a clear vision to the role.
Since Edu’s departure, Jason Ayto, Arsenal’s assistant technical director, has been temporarily filling the role, with Garlick assisting him. However, Arsenal is actively seeking a permanent replacement and is considering several candidates, including Ashworth.
Ashworth’s departure from Manchester United was linked to disagreements over operational decisions, and it remains to be seen if he would be ready to take on another high-profile role immediately. Arsenal is not under urgent pressure to fill the position but is keen to find the right candidate to continue Edu’s transformative work.
