Former Chelsea striker Loic Remy has spoken out about his unsuccessful transfer to Liverpool in 2014 and also alleges that Arsenal expressed interest in him.
Former Chelsea striker, Loic Remy, has shared his experience of a failed move to Liverpool in 2014, revealing that he also received interest from Arsenal during that time.
Remy was on the verge of joining Liverpool in the summer of 2014, having agreed personal terms and even been offered the number 7 shirt previously worn by Luis Suarez. However, the deal fell through after Remy failed his medical due to a heart condition. “I remember being on holiday, back in my home country, on a small island, and my agent gave me a call to tell me that Liverpool wanted to sign me,” Remy recalled. “They were training in Boston for pre-season, and it felt like a dream come true.
Despite the disappointment with Liverpool, Remy’s agent informed him that Arsenal had also shown interest in him. “There was almost one final twist when Arsenal emerged with interest,” Remy said. “But I didn’t regret choosing Chelsea over the Gunners.”
After the Liverpool deal fell through, Chelsea quickly stepped in and secured Remy’s signature. “Chelsea called my agent and said they wanted to sign me,” Remy explained. “I felt very happy and proud to join such a big club.” Remy went on to score 12 goals in 47 appearances for Chelsea before leaving on a free transfer to Las Palmas in 2017.
Reflecting on his career, Remy admitted that signing for Chelsea was the craziest move of his career. “I can remember holding the Liverpool scarf in my hands, thinking I was going to Anfield, but things changed so quickly,” he said. “In the end, I’m happy with how things turned out.”
