Declan Rice revealed that Bukayo Saka wouldβve been “fuming” after he was denied assist during Arsenalβs 2-0 victory over Manchester United last night. The Premier Leagueβs set-piece kings were at it again, scoring from two second-half corners as they moved back to within seven points of leaders Liverpool.
Riceβs perfectly flighted inswinging corner led to Jurrien Timber heading home the opening goal nine minutes into the second half. This was Riceβs 50th Premier League appearance for Arsenal, and he has been instrumental in their set-piece success this season.
The second goal came from Bukayo Sakaβs deeper delivery, which Thomas Partey headed back for William Saliba to finish. Although Saka didnβt get the assist, Rice acknowledged that it would have been another assist for the young winger, who is chasing the record jointly held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry for a single campaign.
Rice laughed when he learned that he moved one assist closer to his teammate as his corner didnβt directly lead to the goal. “Heβd have been fuming!” Rice said. “That would have been another one closer to the record. I want him to get that, thatβd be massive for him.
Riceβs performance and Arsenalβs set-piece prowess were key factors in their victory over Manchester United. As the Gunners continue their title challenge, Sakaβs contributions from set-pieces will be crucial, and he will undoubtedly be eager to add more assists to his tally.
