The Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made a recent trip to the United States to meet with the Kroenkes.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta returned from a trip to the United States, where he met with club owner Stan Kroenke. Arteta described the meeting as a “positive” experience, highlighting the productive discussions they had about the club’s future and the ongoing search for a new sporting director to replace Edu Gaspar.
Edu, who resigned earlier this month, played a crucial role in Arsenal’s recruitment strategy and his departure has left a significant gap. In the interim, Jason Ayto, who has been with Arsenal for a decade and previously served as Edu’s assistant, has stepped up to oversee the role.
During the meeting, Arteta and Kroenke discussed various topics, including the upcoming transfer windows and the direction the club should take moving forward. Arteta praised Ayto’s work and the ambition of the club’s recruitment team, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to Arsenal’s success.
The search for Edu’s replacement is still in its early stages, with several potential candidates being considered. Among them are Real Sociedad’s Roberto Olabe and Paris Saint-Germain advisor Luis Campos, both of whom have been linked to the role. Arsenal is also exploring internal options, including the promotion of Ayto to a permanent position.
Arteta expressed his optimism about the future, stating, “It’s always really positive to spend time together. We had time to talk about the windows and we’re taking the club after Edu. It’s a lot of topics there, but again it’s a joy to spend time with them because it’s a lot to learn.” They have so much experience in sport because you feel the ambition, especially when you are there. “They are very far away, but how closely they live every day with us and what we want to achieve together, it feels great.”
