Mikel Arteta couldn’t hide his disappointment as Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. The Gunners’ boss described the match as “a game of errors” after his side’s performance fell short in key moments.
Arteta pointed to critical mistakes that led to Bournemouth’s goals. “We made too many mistakes at crucial times,” Arteta said. “When you make such errors, especially in a competitive league like the Premier League, you get punished.”
One of the turning points was the dismissal of William Saliba. The French defender was shown a red card for a last-man foul on Evanilson, reducing Arsenal to ten men. “The red card changed the game,” Arteta admitted. “It put us on the back foot and made it difficult to recover.”
Despite the setback, Arsenal had chances to score, with Raheem Sterling and Mikel Merino coming close. Arteta acknowledged these missed opportunities: “We had our chances, but we didn’t take them. At this level, you have to be clinical.”
Arteta emphasized the need to learn from this defeat and move forward. “It’s a setback, but we must learn and improve. We have a busy schedule ahead, and we need to bounce back quickly,” he said.
