After being called β€˜overrated’ and not β€˜world-class’ by McClean following Denmark game, Rice, who switched from the Republic of Ireland to the England national team, responded to the comments during a press conference.

Rice stated, “I had a fantastic relationship with James while we were playing for Ireland. I won’t speak ill of him. He’s had a remarkable career with over a hundred caps for Ireland. We are at different stages of our careers – he’s 35 and I’m 25. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that.”

He also admitted that his decision to go from Ireland to England could have caused the bitterness. Despite the exchange, Rice chose to remain positive, emphasizing, β€œI see the comments, but I don’t dwell on them. You live and learn, and that’s most important to me.”
