Manager Mikel Arteta has provided crucial updates on the team’s injury situation as Arsenal prepares to face Leicester City in an important Premier League fixture. These updates could significantly impact Arsenal’s lineup and strategy for the upcoming match.

One of the primary concerns for Arteta is the fitness of goalkeeper David Raya. The Gunners shot-stopper, who has been in excellent form, is currently dealing with a muscular injury. Arteta mentioned that a decision on Raya’s availability would be made closer to the match, stating, “We have to wait another 24 hours to see if it is looking good or not. It’s not about risk. It is about a player being fit or available”.

If Raya is unable to play, Arsenal has a couple of options. Neto, who is on loan from Bournemouth, could step in as the starting goalkeeper. Neto missed the midweek EFL Cup match against Bolton due to being cup-tied, but he is expected to be available for the Leicester clash. Additionally, 16-year-old Jack Porter made history by becoming Arsenal’s youngest ever starter in the EFL Cup, though he is unlikely to feature in the Premier League match.

Arteta also provided updates on other key players. Jurrien Timber, who has been dealing with muscle cramps, trained on Friday and is expected to be in contention for the match. Ben White, who was left out of the starting lineup against Manchester City due to a fitness issue, is also hopeful to be available.

Mikel Arteta on Merino: β€œHe’s not ready for tomorrow, too soon… but next week, we will see”.

β€œMikel had partial is too soon. Next week we’ll see, as he had partial training today and we have to be sure”.
